I must admit this is a new low for me. I haven't written anything in... too long.
So for no reason at all, I'm posting the last achievement of the cat. He's learnt how to hop onto the shower screen and he'd stay there for hours on end looking out the bathroom window. Yesterday, he stayed up there for 20 minutes while the MWWSH showered. As soon as it's not a blow dryer, he's good.

Well, soon more and better.

Buff!

0lindezas
Buff! I haven't written anything in years and sticking to my theme, this post is not going to be long.
Sticking to my theme too, work keeps me busy all day long, filling my head with 'I'll do this today and that, I'll leave it for tomorrow cause this thing here is more urgent...' Well, priorities.
Anyhow, not only from work lives the man (or the woman), so I make my intensive work sessions more enjoyable with musics of the world. My latest acquisition has been the Panic! in the Room album (Pretty Odd). It's a very pop British band. I found it funny when I listened to the whole cd cause it's taken me to two moments in my life. The first one, me and my friend Rosy listening to The Beatles. And the second one, to the music my aunt used to listen to when she was young and rebellious and she felt traumatised cause she had turned 25... 25! YEARS! OLD!
But yeah, it's one of those great things music does, with just a few notes it can remind you of things you thought long forgotten or make you think about things you never thought possible.
I'll leave you to the link to their website. The website is not the greatest thing in the world, but you'll be able to watch some videos. Although the very nice people from Fueled by Ramen, the record company, have restricted by country some of the videos they've uploaded to YouTube. Therefore, you might find yourselves with a very rude 'this video is not available in your country'... how discriminatory! But oh well, it's not the end of the world, people.
Enjoy, it's already Friday. Cheers!

Buff!

0lindezas
Buff!
¡Salud!

Blog update

0lindezas
Well, I can say at last that "La memoria de las flores" is completely in Spanish. To read all the posts in English, you'll have to click on the "In English" icon. Or, in this case, if you wanna read it in Spanish, you'll have to click on the "In Spanish" button. The blog tries to be the exact same version as in Spanish, but right now I'm having some technical difficulties with the template and I can't get it to look like I want it to. I'll keep working on it and I hope you'll soon be able to enjoy the same thing but double. And who knows? Maybe one day, when I don't have anything better to do or when I'm bored to death, I'll make the French, Japanese, German and Portuguese version... or not.

Ah! Warning, I haven't upload all the entries to this version, so don't look around too much... hehe.

Actualización bloguera

0lindezas

Songs

I need you, more than you'll ever know
I still do... I'm willing to let it show.
I need a minute just to get to you,
I feel like I might be getting through
Come over and say nothing,
Silence is everything.

This belongs to an Aly & A.J. song, from the Insomniatic album. For some reason, I cannot get it out of my head lately. I can't stop humming this verse and it's almost as if it talked to me. It's funny how there are still times, after all these years with myself, in which I surprise myself and find out new things about me. I'm growing up.

Me estoy haciendo mayor.

Books and things

0lindezas
Today Arthur C. Clarke has passed away.
My idyll with science-fiction started a few years ago now, but it seems like it's always been a part of me.
Books have always been present in my life. My parents are mostly the ones to blame, obviously; especially my dad, who's an avid reader. There's always been bookshelves full of all kinds of books in my house, from comic books to cook books, all through epic novels. Since I was little, my parents have encouraged me to read and, believe it or not, to look up stuff in the dictionary. Maybe my utter and total obsession with books in general and dictionaries in particular comes from there.
There's something special in that almost ritual moment of starting a new book. Something fabulous in picking up your reading, where it almost feels like you're meeting old friends. It feels like you're getting out of your daily world, all plain and boring, and getting in a whole new world where everything's possible. I love the smell of books, the noise of the passing pages, the smooth feeling of the edge of the pages... I love reading.
My dad has always been a big fan of science-fiction, but I never felt attracted to that kind of literature. Maybe because of my young age, I thought science-fiction was all about an incredibly big boring-ass story about scientists and their jibby-jabba... And boy, was I ever right! And I love it sooo much! Cause it's nothing like a jibby-jabba at all.
Why do I tell you that Arthur C. Clarke has died? Cause the first science-fiction book I ever read was written by him. He was my very own gatekeeper of the wonderful world science-fiction has been for me. I've never stopped reading it. In fact, some of my all-time favourite books, those that you recommend everyone, are science-fiction.
Me, a natural-born skeptic; me, who loses her faith in human kind everytime I watch the news; me, I find a fantastic shelter in those imaginary worlds, in those true tests humans are subjected to when they encounter beings from another planet, in that definitive form of humility when Man has to admit he doesn't know nor can do everything.
So today, when a myth has died and one of the pillars of the bookshelf that holds up my world colapses, I encourage you to read some science-fiction. I started with "Rendezvous with Rama", but there are a lot of great books by this wonderful author, like "The Songs of Distant Earth", that are so worth reading at least once in a lifetime.

Libros y cosas

0lindezas
Me encanta leer.
¡Y cómo me gusta!

Be back

0lindezas
Yes, I'm back.
It seems like forever. And although I'm not even remotely ready to launch the lil' project I started and cause of which I had stopped writing here, I think it's time to come back.
A lot of things have happened since I stopped writing. One of many and maybe the most important of which being that I've been in Canada for two months. Yes, I've gone back to my cherished Canada. This time I haven't gone so far and I've stayed on the East Coast. I've spent two incredible months in Montréal. I want to tell you all about it, but more calmly. Now I'm only gonna leave you with some pics, cause the goal of this post is just to tell you that I'm back and that I'll be posting again. Hopefully, more regularly than before.
Welcome back to my humble home. Kisses and snow for everyone.

Volver

1 lindezas
Sí, he vuelto.
Sí, he vuelto a mi querida Canadá.
Bienvenidos otra vez a mi humilde morada. Besos y nieve para todos.

Paseo por el centro

1 lindezas

Hatsi

0lindezas
I've always said the trip to Egypt was a big change, it meant a beginning and an end of something. Personally, for me it meant the end of a more immature time, and the beginning of a pineapply kind of era. There the "pineapple" came to life, all its members were united by a same passion: Egypt.
I'll always remember the hours on deck, talking about everything and nothing, solving the world, discussing whether Ramses really loved Nefertari, imagining how would have had to be watching them enter the Hall of Columns in Karnak, daydreaming.
It really was like traveling to a different planet, not only cause of the obvious change to our normal lives, but because it was like entering a different time. There, time stops. Everything has a different light, a shade of sepia, a smell of history, a taste of the desert. Unsurprisingly, we came back to Spain with a case full of presents and our bodies plentiful over the pants waist.
Even though it was a trip I'd always wanted to take (it was one of the places in the "Not die before visit" list), I have to say with relief that I wasn't disappointed by anything I saw, no matter how broken it was or how different it was from the picture I had in my mind. Of all the places we visited, strolled, gazed at with tearful eyes (from the emotion, that is), there were several things that impressed me the most. The first one was the tomb of Ramses VI. The second, the Hall of Columns in Karnak, which I had dreamt about since I knew of its existence. And the third was the mummy room in the Cairo Museum. I'll only stop to talk to you about the last one, and I promise I'll write some more about the other two, and about the trip in general.
The Cairo Museum is huge. Our guide, wonderful Mohammed, tried to take us through the most important pieces, covering all fronts possible with the truly little time we had to watch it all. At the end, he gave us half an hour to wander about, and some of us run to the mummy room. I could have never ever, not even in my wildest dreams, imagined what we saw there. I can only say that the mummies are so well-kept I'm glad they were in glass cabinets. Cause had they been uncovered and one little breeze moved any of their hairs, I would have gotten to Australia without swimming. It's amazing some of them are more than 3,000 years old. In fact, except for the fact that they don't have any eyeballs, they look like they're sleeping. It's breathtaking.
And all this is because the mummy of Hatshepsut has been identified. And all because of a tooth. Who could have told her in 1480 b.C. that more than 3,000 years later someone would make her famous cause of one of her teeth?
Hatshepsut was known for being the queen-pharao that reigned over the two lands for the longest time. What does that mean? That as Ramses II and a few other pharaos, she managed to keep her people united. All people in the Upper and Lower Egypt. That, in a time when transportation and communications were very limited, it was a feat of intelligence, planification and leadership. Besides, it could be said that she was a model for womanhood. Cause even though she lived in a society ruled by men, she managed to position herself and make everybody respect her, as a woman and leader. From our point of view now, that doesn't seem like such a big of a deal, but just think about how we were here just 50 years ago. Now go back 3,000 years more... impressive, huh?
Well, I'll leave you here till the next issue of "Egypt: mandatory visit".

Hatsi

0lindezas

¡¡A disfrutar!!

City repairs and Kyoto

0lindezas
We've had elections for the municipality just a few days ago and all of us who live in Madrid have noticed several things: that there are more city repairs than ever that, misteriously, are being finished way faster than usual. And that all repairs that are finished, don't work.

The other day we were counting the new metro stations that have been opened. Between December last year and last month, nothing less than 43 stations have opened. That's quite a lot. For a while, the only thing you could hear in the news was how bad those stations worked, how dangerous the new trains are supposed to be, and what a huge battle the council and the community have engaged in to show who has paid for what. Then they have opened a couple of those freeway tunnels that have been under construction for years and that have been driving everybody crazy. And damn! that's bad luck! just the day they open the tunnel, all bright and new, starts raining cats, dogs, buckets and everything as if we
had the monsoon here, and the tunnel floods!!! But I'm not saying just a couple of puddles, you put a bucket underneath and that's it. No, no. There was a waterfall, three-meter-deep water, a man about to drown... well, the whole nine yards.

All those constructions are supposed to make our lives easier. We suffer some time of inconveniences, but then everything is more modern, better, and it cheers us up. A little like Sim City, but way more boring. Anyways, there are a few out there that don't think the same. If you don't believe it, look what I found the other day...
(Lil' explanation for the non-Spanish speakers:
"What would happen if nothing happened?"
Handwritten: "We would comply with Kyoto!")

Las obras y Kioto

0lindezas

Y me encanta.
